filling up Root Canal Disinfection - Danger - Don't Mix These 2 Together!

There is a compound/precipitate that is formed when NaOCl (sodium hypochlorite) and CHX (chlorohexidine) are mixed. CHX is found in Qmix.

Why is this important? Well, currently (2012), it appears that the use of NaOCl 6%, CHX 2%, and ETDA 17% are all relatively accepted in the literature to provide some level of canal disinfection - there are many other irrigants as well. It's also important to understand that as research evolves and new products are brought forth, the types of irrigants change over the course of time. However, if you are using (or thinking of adding CHX) to your irrigation protocol - think about what may be formed - and - if it is toxic to your patient.

I use QMix myself (based on one of my mentors who completed his endo grad with Marcus Haapasalo (inventor of QMix). Just make sure you clean out the canals effectively between irrigants.
